To remove this infection, you must have a set of Rescue Disks with current virus definitions.
NOTE: These instructions will also work for Willow.1870
- If you have a set of Rescue Disks with current virus definitions, then skip to the section How to remove Willow.2031
- If you do not have a set of Rescue Disks with current virus definitions, then go to the section How to create Rescue Disks.
CAUTION: Rescue Disks must be used only on Windows 95/98 computers. Do not use a Rescue Disk created on a Windows 95/98 computer to attempt to disinfect a Windows NT/2000 computer. Doing so will result in loss of data and inability to access Windows.
How to create Rescue Disks
- Go to a Windows 95/98 computer that you know is virus-free and install Norton AntiVirus, if not already installed.
- Run LiveUpdate to update the virus definitions.
- Run a full system scan, making sure that Norton AntiVirus (NAV) is set to scan all files.
- Create a new set of Rescue Disks. You will need five to seven new, formatted floppy disks. See NAV Help for information on how to create the disks.
How to remove Willow.2031
- Make sure that the Rescue Disks are write-protected.
- Shut down the computer. You must turn off the power and wait at least 30 seconds.
- Insert Disk 1--the Basic Rescue Boot Floppy Disk--in the floppy disk drive.
- Restart the computer. The Rescue Disk program starts. This could take a few minutes.
- In the Commands section, use the arrow keys on the keyboard to select Norton AntiVirus.
CAUTION: Do not select Rescue Recovery.
- Press Tab until the blinking cursor is in the command line at the bottom of the Rescue Disk screen.
- Press Backspace until only Navdx.exe, followed by a space, remains on the command line.
- Type the following:
/doallfiles/repair
- Press Enter to start running the virus scan. Insert Rescue Disks as prompted.
NOTE: This scan can take several hours or longer. Do not interrupt the scan.
