TECHNICAL DETAILS
When an infected file is executed, the virus will hook the CreateFileA() function in the host, and will then infect .exe files in the current folder. If the host calls CreateFileA() during its execution, then the virus will infect .exe in the same folder as the file you are trying to open. The virus will also infect Calc.exe and Notepad.exe in the Windows folder. If an infected file is executed at exactly 10:00 A.M. on any day, then the virus will drop the file Neo.bmp, and change the desktop wallpaper to display this file. The wallpaper is shown here:
Due to a bug in the virus code, infected files will not execute under Windows NT or 2000.
REMOVAL
To remove this virus:
- Run LiveUpdate to make sure that you have the most recent virus definitions.
- Start Norton AntiVirus (NAV), and then run a full system scan, making sure that NAV is set to scan all files.
- If any files are detected as infected by W95.Miam.4716, choose Repair. If NAV cannot repair a file, you will have to delete it and restore it from a clean backup.
