How to obtain and use the W2K.Stream Repair Tool
The W2K.Stream Repair Tool will work in any Win32-based environment (Windows 9x, NT, 2000). To use the tool, SARC recommends downloading the Fixstrm.exe file to your Windows desktop or to a folder on your hard disk. After the file finishes downloading, follow these steps:

1. Close all programs.
2. Run fixstrm.exe [PATH]
   
   Where [PATH] is a file name, drive, or directory to scan.
   
   The directory can be a UNC path (for example, \qkumbastuff). Run it with no parameters to see usage.
   

How to verify that the tool is from Symantec
To verify the digital signature of Fixstrm.exe using Chktrust.exe, follow these steps:

1. Go to http://www.wmsoftware.com/free.htm
2. Download and save chktrust.exe into the same folder where Fixstrm.exe is located.
3. Click Start, point to Programs, and click MS-DOS Prompt.
4. Change to the folder where Fixstrm.exe and Chktrust.exe are stored. If the files were saved to the desktop folder, type the following command at the MS-DOS prompt:
   
   cd windowsdesktop
   
5. Type the following command to check the digital signature of Fixstrm.exe:
   
   chktrust -i fixstrm.exe
   
6. If the digital signature is valid you will see the following message:
   
   "Do you want to install and run "Nav Def Fix Tool" signed on 09/11/2000 2:57 P.M. and distributed by Symantec Corporation?"
   
   NOTES:
   • The date and time that appear in this message will be adjusted to your time zone if your computer is not set to the Pacific time zone. For example, if you live in the Eastern time zone the date and time you will see will be 09/11/2000 5:57 P.M.
   • If you are using Daylight Saving time, the displayed time will be exactly one hour earlier.
   • If this message does not appear or the date and time are not properly adjusted for your time zone, do not use your copy of Fixstrm.exe; it is not from Symantec. If the message appeared, click No.
   • If this message appears and the text is correct for your time zone, this copy of Fixstrm.exe is from Symantec. Click Yes to dismiss the Chktrust dialog. The DOS window will display result: 0.
7. Type exit and then press the Enter key. This will terminate the MS-DOS session.
